Default 95' 90 Quattro Rear view mirror came off?

Well, I was driving along today, and the read view mirror fell off.

Anyways, I have used the special epoxy from the auto stores and when I worked at a dealer years ago.

My question is, most have a set screw so you can remove the metal Pad from the mirror so all you need to do is put a drop of the epoxy and hold it there for about a minute.

That's a lot of weight if you have to hold that big mirror in place for it to set up. I don't see where that round metal pad comes off the mirror either even though it looks like Ther is 2 notches on the one side.

Anyone ever glued one back on that maybe knows something that Im overlooking?

Thanks, Duane

In the meantime I will try another search on it

Nope, that's the thing there is not set screw of any sort on this one. That's why I posted about it. Maybe I will just run it to a glass company and have them use there good epoxy to that sets up real quirky.

I know the mirror in my 90q doesn't have a set screw for the mirror. The mirror only goes on sideways, then when you twist is to the normal position it locks in place. Your best bet is to get the metal mounting plate off the mirror. Then, you can get a special mirror/glass adhesive at most auto parts stores. It sets up quick and is really strong. Clean the area really well, put some adhesive on the mounting plate, position it with some masking tape and let dry. You should be good to take the tape of in a half hour or less.

Default what I did...

Mine too fell off. It broke (crack) when it hit the console. I went to a wreckers to find one and had a awesome idea...

I snagged the electrically auto dimming rear view mirror from a old caddy and put it in there. Just run a 12v to it and you are good to go. it works awesome. These same mirrors come in a dozen or so GM models. I even think I have a few extra around here.

As for the adhesive, just get the stuff form your FLAPS and follow the directions. Be sure to clean the area with isoprophonal and a razor first.

Yes, I have glued many metal bases back on, Gm cars, the trick is trying to grip the the metal base so I can twisted 90 degree off the mirror as I do see the 2 notches.

Thanks, at first I didn't know if that base came off the mirror..

FYI
There are two different mirrors on these cars...

My 93 90q on the right
The later version (that you are talking about) on the left

Yes. Mine is the later version on the left, just trying to figure how to grip on to the base to get it off.

I can't believe Audi, (Well yes I can), but changed the Mirror styles even between those years on the same Model even.

Thanks for posting the Photos, so Other members know also that things are not always the same.

Just use some needle nose locking pliers, and rotate the metal tab 90 degrees. I just did this a few days ago
