Default Tiny plastic line left side front??

Can anyone tell me what the heck this little plastic line is/does? It was hanging down below the front bumper valence and appears to be broken off at the end. I've looked all over under there and can't see the other end or a logical attachment point. It is sort of insulated with a fabric cover part of the way. It originates up behind the power steering pump reservoir and in front of the washer reservoir but I can't see the actual connection at that point. It's sort of up under the curl of the front fender. No CEL or codes and everything seems to work okay. It's not a vacuum or at least it doesn't suck. Sorry. 2001 A6 Avant 2.8 30v. In the lower photo it's at the bottom with the braided covering. Can't find it in the Bentley.

Vacuum line, goes under engine cover to intake manifold area. Should be another piece near front of intake

Default unidentified plastic line / washer line

It is not the headlight washer as they both work fine and I also checked the rear window washer and it also works. This line is much smaller than the washer lines. Thanks anyway, I appreciate it.

I'll do some searching this afternoon. By front do you mean the back of the enigne where the intake tube is? Or the front of the engine?

How about the mess/maze of vacuum lines that control the variable intake manifold runners/flappers?
The suck on those lines is controlled by an electric solenoid/valve actuated at various engine speeds.

You wouldn't notice it and it wouldn't trigger a CEL. Similar to frozen flappers/rods.

Any idea where to begin the search? I have all of the plastic covers off and don't see anything. I noticed this hose after replacing the fog light grills when I backed off a parking stop and popped them out. I'm sitting on the garage floor and see this thing hanging down from beneath the bumper cover. I had the plastic belly pan off at the time. I'll look at flappers/rods to see if I spot anything.

I found it. Yes it is a vacuum line that comes from the left side fender then up under the plastic engine cover on the left side then up to the fuel rail, around to the plate at the back/top of the engine with all the stuff on it and then around to the right side fuel rail and then to the front of the engine to operate something I'm not up on yet. The plastic parts of the line are pretty brittle but I got it into a piece of the rubber hosing. This baby ought to run light a scalded dog now. Thanks SJB for the help. Much appreciated.

Go ahead and STFA for the threads on ensuring/loosening/testing those shafts. Basically you just work the big levers against the spring with your hand and see if they snap back. Those levers are attached to the two vacuum motors by the 2"-3" links with ball-socket ends. You don't have to unsnap the links to test the arms/shafts.

Is that what I see under the coils at the front of the motor?
