96 A6 Quattro - Headlights ON, Dashboard OFF
Hi all, I'm new to this forum and was hoping to get some tips and tricks as to the little silly things my '96 A6 Quattro comes up with. 
My question today is: this morning on my way to work I'm noticing that although my headlights are ON, my radio, climate control and digital mileage meter are NOT on (not lighted). It's hard to see my cluster lights (need new bulbs) but I'm thinking they were also not on. It was dawnish and hard to tell. Obviously these only come on when the lights are turned on.
When I arrived at work, I played with the ignition and light switch and conclusion: all is illuminated as it should be when the ignition is ON - until I turn on my lights (park to regular beam).
Could this be related to the ignition switch? Any ideas or clues would be graciously appreciated!

Wow... I ain't got a friend who drives a quality GERMAN car (hahaha!), so I guess I'll have to track one down maybe on ebay or something. It's really weird... I figured maybe when you turn on the lights the circutry changes to where it reroutes power for the in-car lights such as climate control, radio and dash... some short somewhere, that's for sure. But then again, what do I know? I'm just a clueless chick LOL.
As I said, I got a sticky ignition, so I'm not yet ready to rule out that possibility.
Danged, it sux when your car has an ouchie!

OK, I figured it out. Played with all the light and dimmer switches to see what gives and apparently the dimmer switch was having a brain f@rt. Lost its mind for no reason... wiggled it a bit and voila, back in biz.

On the C5s the headlight and dimmer switch come as an assembly with a new bezel....If your dimmer switch is anything like the C5 when you replace the headlight switch you get a new panel dimmer switch.
