Power Output Stage test info
I am trying to figure out if I am testing the power output stages correctly. I have swapped coils, new plugs and I seem to have a misfire or no combustion going on in #2 no matter what I swap. I pulled the 4 pin connectors and verified ground and each of three pulsed signals using my trusty LED checker. Nice and healthy. I get code P0300 quite often and P0302 occassionally. I get blinking yellow CEL on acceleration through normally 3k rpm. Lots of stumbling down low but it revs freely up high.
This started after getting a fuel trim error due to broken flexible joints. I just had them welded up and all looks good, no O2 or fuel codes at all.
So I am now checking output of the POS at each of the three pins and I get no LED pulsing or light at all on the output of the POS. I continuity checked all the connectors to the coils and all checks out.
What am I doing wrong. I thought the output of the POS just put the 12V signal through so it could be grounded eventually by the individual coil. If so the LED signal should be present in the connector leading to the POS and then you should see the same at the ouput side if you connect the LED to the pin and then ground. Using a multimeter I don't see 12v coming out of the POS at all but the car is running fairly well with a big stumble starting around the first turbo. Doesn't like being loaded up a hill in a high gear at all.
How to do a conclusive test????
I have no output on the backside of the POS (3 pin end) but the engine is actually running fairly well with stumble.
I am more interested in knowing if I am doing the output test correctly. Seems I should get the LED signal from the three output pins to Battery ground if the POS was passing the signal unless I don't understand the circuit.
