2002 3.0 broken timing belt

2002 3.0 broken timing belt
I've got a project and need info. I have a Bently manual and it has nothing as far as head removal on the 3.0. It has a broken timing belt and im pulling heads for rebuild and would like something on that procedure.

It's basically the same as removing the heads from a 2.8.
A broken timing belt means bent valves, but it could also include piston damage as well. Check everything really close to determine how extensive the damage is.

So you are saying the 3.0 is what they call an "interference" engine? The valves WILL hit the pistons if the cam gets out of time? Can I assume the 2.8 is interference as well? I need to change my thermostat and it looks as though it has been nearly 80,000 miles since the belt was done. Looks like I should order the full kit. As for rvaneps, make sure you carefully inspect the piston tops once you get the heads off. If there are significant dents in the pistons, particularly near the outside edges, a used engine might be your best option. It would really suck to spend the money replacing all the bent valves, plus all the labor putting it back together, only to discover your engine has low compression due to a collapsed ring land.
