Google Earth Navigation Maps
So, it's been almost a week since I picked up my car. I have messed around with Audi Connect. It's an amazing service, although, I don't think that I have much use for it, other than the fact that I love the Google Earth navigation view... I don't think that only this is worth the monthly data charge, however. Is there some way to download the maps onto an SD card or the car's internal HD? Even if it's just for the state I live in? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I currently don't have a data plan with the car, or at least I think I don't, because the online search function and hotspot don't seem to work. However, I am still able to get google earth maps. Also, check out a thread here called tru phone Sim, which allows you to buy a pay as you go data plan, so you pay for what you use rather than an expensive monthly fee.
This same rep told me that a carrier agnostic version of the MMI will be coming for the 2015 model year, and that it would NOT be backwards compatible to the "old" vehicles.

And yes, no way are any of changes (or even software updates) typically backward compatible. Auto companies don't ever want to do a software update unless the owners show that there is an actual issue with the software in their car. You just have to figure out some issue (to make up) get get a new software update

Not exactly. AT&T and T-mobile operate their respective 3G networks on different frequencies (AT&T 3G operates at 850 & 1900 MHz; T-mobile 3G operates at 1700 & 2100 MHz) so as far as 3G data speeds, it is a hardware limitation.
You can put an AT&T SIM card in the Audi and it will work - just at the backward compatible 2G (EDGE) speeds - not at 3G speeds.
