Default Am I getting ripped off on my servicing?

Hi all, newbie to the forums. any help would be appreciated.

I own a 2001 audi a6 3.0. I was due servicing at 100k, but i guess i just avoided it and avoided until now. i'm at 130k and I think i better get it now before something serious happens.

anyways the breakdown i got estimated:

parts:
timing belt damper: $190
alternator, power steering and a/c compressor belt: $40
water pump: $260
timing belt kit: $215

labor: $600 (includes labor for the timing belt service, and for the 100k service)

not to mention the mechanic suggested that i also change my engine mounts because my engine was extremely loose at $244 for the parts, and $255 for the labor to remove and replace the left and right engine mounts.

=(. for the condition of my car, the price of the service and repairs is close to my threshold to sell my car instead of putting in the necessary repairs. any suggestions or advice? do these prices seem in line?

Why timing damper? Unless it has rotated or is otherwise damaged they seldom nerd replacement.. Need terms at as well. 600 may be six hours or less depending on abor rates. Sounds far.

Engine mounts don't get loose; they fail, break in two, separate, or hydraulic ones leak purple fluid.

You also need coolant, brake fluid flush, and probably transmission fluid service if automatic..6-7 liters flud, new filer and pan gasket.

OP the 01 has a 2.7, 2.8, and 4.2 which is your engine? the 3.0 was made in 02+ the 01 v6 engine is a 30 valve not 3.0.

on my 2.8 i got my timing belt done at 90k for 1200 which included the fix for my oil leaks.

ah, yes u are correct. 2.8 is my engine. 1200 just for the timing belt? that seems a lot for that repair? i think i got quoted a lot less than that. still alot tho ugh

$1200 sounds right, but about half the parts you need are missing.
STFA for a full list. I've posted it (with part numbers) several times.

Since a "timing damper" isn't a real part, I think you have each taken it to mean something different. I think Sloop is talking about the harmonic balancer (correct?) and the OP is talking about the tensioner, which should be replaced along with the level.

Agreed, especially on the trans service. I would add that the diffs need to be checked for fluid level if this has been ignored.

Shop around for cheaper price. Last summer I paid $1000 for my 2002 3.0L timing belt svc, including water pump, & thermostat.

3.0L is considered the hardest one to do so it is most expensive among engines 2.8, 2.7t and 4.2

For your 2.8 I won't be surprised if you can find the price at $750 to $850 (incl. labor & parts)

I had a new set of NGK Iridium spark plugs at same time. Already had tranny & diffy svc 16k miles ago.
