Default Wheel question (no not "will these fit"...)

Getting ready for a trip soon, looked at my spare and it's flat. So I pull it out, and look inside the wheel and notice the marking for the size, and here's what I see

This is on a 2001 A6 2.7t with H2 brakes. Everything I have ever read states that wheels with a 45 offset won't fit - must be 35mm. So what's with this?

Next I pull one of the front wheels to check (maybe the spare was switched at some point?) and it's the same. Brand new pads on the brakes - the clearance from the calipers isn't much, but they fit.

On the accessory build list the original wheels are listed as CC5 = Alloy wheels 7.5J x 18 So these being 16s, I'm assuming either the build list was wrong or someone changed them. Either way, are these special (noting the H2 in the marking) or will other 45s somehow work? I need to get at least a new wheel for the spare 'cause it's pretty chewed up.

Here's the exterior of the wheel - just looks normal to me...

Thanks,
Jim

Default Some answers:

1. Looks like a standard OEM 2.7T wheel to me.

2. 16" was the norm in that era. To see 17's, they were likely optional wheels on a 4.2 in the early days. I don't think 18's debuted until 2003 w/ the RS6.

3. No, they aren't ET35 just because they are HP2's. The 4.2's are the ones w/ 35ET wheels (in the 17x8's). It also relates to the flared fenders on the 4.2 (and not on the 2.7 or 2.8/3.0), which allows the wheel to be pushed further outward with the more agressive offset. Meanwhile, I expect the non-flared C5 wheels to be generally in the mid-40 range offset wise.

4. For what it's worth, the reason those wheels fit the HP'2s is if you look carefully, notice how the spokes are "bulged out" a fair amount when you look at the wheel face. In turn, the inside of the wheel is then more opened up all around the hub face, which clears out enough room for the relatively wide HP2 calipers. That bulge in the wheels is pretty unique among Audi wheels to the 2.7T. Usually the face is much flatter, or more concave on the yet wider ones.

je ne sais pas. However, the 2.7t "snow" wheels were 45mm x 7.5 x 16 (not 7). They obviously fit, so it can be done. depends on inner spoke shape. G

I don't know how many different types of wheels were available for 2.7T A6's in '01, but that isn't the OEM 16" that came with mine. As far as I know, all the OEM "off-the-line" wheels had wheel bolt covers.

I have the original 16's on the car right now, with snows on them. I'll see what he offset is and if I can pull a part number for an original, as delivered, '01 wheel.

Pic 1 is a ORIGINAL 16" alloy from a 2001 A6 2.7t.

Pic 2 is it's part number (4B0601025G).

And, pic 3 is the size and offset - yep, ET45 !

Maybe that wheel was from a A4 (?)

As MP4.2+6.0 said, all the OEM 2.7t wheels were dished out quite a bit to clear the front brakes. I suspect the "no ET45" thing was for more 'conventional' wheels.

Default The wheel in the OP's picture was...

very standard issue on at least model year 2000 2.7T's. I looked at one seriously when I bought the 4.2 new in Nov 1999, and two colleagues at work over the years had early 2.7T's purchased or leased from new with those 5 spoke OEM wheels.
