Default all 4 windows in a allroad wagon stopped working.

2001 A6 allroad wagon.
stock security system

Hi everyone,
I had above mentioned car for three years. When I bought this car, rear passenger window switches did not work so rear passengers had to ask me or a driver to lower or raise the rear windows. Also window childlock didn't work when I bought this car.

About three ago, all four windows in my car stopped working. There aren't any responses to any window buttons in this car.
Coincidently, instrument panel's door ajar indication stopped working at around same time and suddenly began to work again recently.

When I go out, I have to carry two German shepherds with me in this car and they just stinks. Fortunately the sun roof works but I really have to get the windows working again.

I had factory stock car alarm system going off in the middle of night out without any reasons and number 14 fuse kept blowing up. Now these windows!

How can I fix this?

Well, the windows are actually controlled by the central locking computer, as is the alarm system. Sounds like that unit has partially or completely died. Get the codes pulled from the car and you should get multiple errors from central locking (indicating it's got problems) or the VAG-COM won't be able to talk to central locking at all (which means it's toast...) Water can get into these units (ABS is famous for this) and kill them.

When you say codes, you meant the OBD2?

No. You need VAG-COM. Or visit the Audi dealer.

You need to get the codes from the OBD2 port, but you need a unit that understands VAG vehicles (Volkswagen, Audi, Seat and Skoda) like the VAG-COM. See if you can find an indy mechanic who has one or someone's locally you can borrow, or look into buying one - it's the only way to really know what's going on in our cars, and even if you go to the dealer for maintenance, you can easily make back the cost of one in knowing exactly what's wrong before you take it to them so they can't BS you.

Do the power door locks stop working at the same time too? If the door locks also stop working, the Comfort Control Module is bad. If the locks still do work. the drivers door control module is bad which is built into the window motor. if you had vagcom, you could see which module stops communicating when it happens.

simple. Give them a bath.

:-)

Clearly you have a failure in the common circuitry, likely a wire, or fuse.

I have (fortunately) not had to chase those wires. Did you check the fuse?

Thank you very much guys, checked for the water leaks around the driver's seat. No signs of water leaks any where in the cabin including the driver's seat area.

Unhooked the black two wire connector under the driver's seat and the number 14 fuse still blows up every time I put 10 amp fuse. Ran out of 20 amp fuses and can't open up the sunroof now.

Seems like so many different versions of the vag-com cables are on sale. Which version do I need for the 2001 A6?

The door locks still works. So the unit that contains the driver's windows switches and child lock button?
