Default Temperature/coolant Gauge issue

I have an Audi A6 2.8L 2001 and recently I started having an issue with my temperature sensor/gauge. It is not moving at all no matter how long i drive my car. I have changed the CTS sensor but still the temp gauge is not moving... the oil temp is normal. Does anyone knows what else could be wrong? Car runs the same no issues but the temp gauge does not come to the middle.. anyone had this issue before and even replacing the CTS did not fix it?

short the CTS and see if the temp gauge pegs. If not, the gauge is effed or the wiring harness has an open.

Since the gauge is part of the instrument cluster you get to pull the cluster and have it repaired.

Long shot I guess the thermostat could be stuck/failed open. That is pretty much confirmed if you short the CTS and the gauge pegs, i.e., the CTS IS sensing the correct temperature.

Thanks ... I'll short the CTS and see if the temp gauge pegs...

Unless you're driving at North Pole at 60 mph, even a stuck open thermostat will raise vehicle temeprature 1/4 to 1/2 mark.

That's why I (nicely) said it's a long shot.

It seems to be the issue with the cluster... how much it cost to replace the cluster?

About 'tree-fiddy.' Sorry, couldn't resist. It depends. $1100 for a dealer-installed rebuilt/new cluster or as little as $140 if you pull the cluster and send it out. Just google 'audi instrument cluster repair' and pick your poison.

There are also repair services on ebay:
