Bringing Audi to Life for Audi Fans
I googled this issue to see what could be the problem. A poster at another forum for Audi gave me an idea on what to check.
1. I gathered my OBDeleven Pro scanner, screwdriver, and meter
2.i plugged in the scanner and connected to the app and started the engine
3. I popped the hood and checked for leaks. No leaks. Then I removed the panel for the overflow reservoir.
4. , the coolant gauge read about mid scale (93-95C on the scanner. After a few minutes the gauge would start going to the one mark right of center ( scanner read about 99C.). Both fans would kick on at 99 C.
5. I would slowly remove the cap to let some heat out and watch the instrument cluster temp gauge and scanner readout. Gauge would go back to center and scanner dropped 5 C to to between 93-94 C. The fans would cut off and then close the cap. I did this several times with the same result.
6. I then cranked on the heater to see what happens. I noticed that the temperature readout from
the scanner dropped from 93 C to 79 C but the instrument cluster gauge was still in the middle scale.
My question is this. What is the gauge position on the instrument cluster in relation to coolant temperature reading. from scanner?
should I buy another cluster since the middle red readout has some pixels not turning in?
the car has a built in digital reader. It’s built into the climate control screen. Press the inside air button and the up arrow (or top vent arrow) at the same time. This will show a number one. Then use the air speed **** and turn it up until the screen reads 49. After that just press the inside air button again and it will show the temp in Celsius. TTs before 2003 have a 90 degree thermostat so as long as it stays near there it’s fine. Anything over I would say 110 I would say there is a bigger problem. I have a very good scanner and the digital reading is lined up directly with the scanner and seems to be accurate. This is not the most ideal way to check but atleast you can know if your overheating or not.
