'93 Audi 90 CS Quattro Speedo/Odometer Issues

'93 Audi 90 CS Quattro Speedo/Odometer Issues
Hoping someone has a bit more knowledge on this issue.
Everything works on the gauge except the speedometer and odometer. But if I am on the highway at a consistent speed, the speedometer starts to erratically jump from 10mph-80 mph, with sometimes staying at correct speed for a few seconds before it starts to make the erratic motion again. During this time, the odometer also works. Once the speedometer stops working and consistently over 3000rpm the check engine light comes on, then turns off the moment the speedo needle makes any slight movement.
I have also noticed that the speedo/odometer tends to try to operate more often when the weather is cold out (I assume this is due to increased amps/resistance/etc associated with colder weather).
Anyone know what this might be? I greatly appreciate any advice.

that sounds like a bad connection somewhere, but what i would do first is take the cluster out, clean all the connections and re-solder everything on the cluster. ive head a problem of my odometer randomly working/not working, partially working. re-soldered the cluster, problem fixed ;-) give that a shot, its an easy job
