What is this noise?

What is this noise?
This is the problem I have been having over the past month. It sounds like its coming from the rear diff but I doubt it is it because the noise goes away and comes back and there is no difference in acceleration.
This is inside of my car.
This is outside my car, rotating the tire left and right.
Has anyone had this noise before, it went away on Saturday for about 3 miles then came back louder than ever, It is louder when I am rolling in neutral.

How would you check a rear CV joint? I checked them and they didn't have any play. The noise was only there when I was moved the tire left and right short distances. I also thought it was the rim when I first heard it, but I have taken it off and tighten it many times already and nothing changes. It goes away when I jack up the car and look for the problem then it comes back after I drive a few blocks, its teasing me.

that sound comes from eather your cv joints or the diff, to test joints, grab the axle and try to rotate it back and forth, if you hear and or c that there is play between the axle and the joint, then you know its your cv joint. have you checked your oil level in the diff?

I found a write up on it and I will attempt tomorrow. I hope the fill & drain holes are not to rusty.
Note: The write up is for an A4 but it looks like my diff, in the event that my the noise is coming from my diff, do you think the rear diff from an 1996 a4 would fit my car?
