Default Try Again - Catalytic Size ?

First, I want to apologize to the entire forum for my post of a couple weeks back. I was in a crap mood when I fired that off and overreacted to a random snarky post. I'll try to make my posts a bit more articulate in the future to avoid any nonsense in the future.

Ok, that said...

My recently-purchased 90Q is turning out to be the worst decision i've made in years, but now I am stuck with it. Next in line in a growing list of new parts are two new cats. After an extensive search of the search function, it seems that Magnaflows are the general consensus. The one thing I cannot find is which part fits best. Magnaflow lists 53004

with a 2" inlet, but others have mentioned 2.25" diameter that would make 94105 the best bet. Can anyone shed light on which one fits best? Car is a 93 2.8 Quattro with completely stock exhaust at the moment. I have no desire to make any performance gains, just want it to stop rattling and possibly clog.

thanks!

Slide under the car with a sharpie/black marker and a piece of string. Wrap it twice around the muffler and draw a line across the strings. Now you have the circumference quite accurately. Lay it on a table, measure with the marks and divide by 3.14 = diameter. Better than trying to guess under there holding a ruler against a round object...

2 inches. The downpipes are two inches until just before the cats where they expand a bit and go into the cats at an angle on the outside corners. The outlet pipe is 2 inches after the flange and exit in the middle of the cat.

So, I'm gonna need the 2 inch magnaflows and some pipe bending to install them. Still should be cheaper than new OEM parts...

So, now that I've gone to the trouble of measuring, I've decided that I'm just going to replace the driver's side cat with a direct fit part. The passenger's side is quiet and doesn't rattle.

This is on ebay

I figure that by the time I drop 150.00 on universal cats and more $$ getting custom pipe bent, I'm going be out more cash than if I just get a direct-fit and bolt it on.

Question is: Anyone ever buy one of these? If so, was it indeed a direct fit? Often times, they aint..

I've been lurking this thread cause my passenger side cattys been rattling like it gets paid to. apparently magnaflow makes a universal catty that fits my '94 90CS, i'm thinking of purchasing that then cutting out the original and welding on this one with my father. but if the direct fit bolt-on works, i might down that path instead. Can you send me a link for the direct fit part you found? thanks man
