Default Wiper issue - any tips for a newbie?

My 90 Quattro sedan wipers have a minor issue I just discovered. It's not a daily driver, yet - a bit more baseline maintenance and I'll be confident in jumping in her.

If the wipers are on and I turn the switch off, sometimes they'll instantly stop wherever they are when I turn them off, rather than complete the wipe as normal. Is this model known for any such issues? I was thinking of spraying some contact cleaner into the wiper switch, but suspect it is a nightmare to remove from the column to get to the contacts.

If this is known to signal impending failure, let me know as I still have access to a parts car and will pull whatever you guys ID as the part I'll wish I had a month from now. Thanks!

So, to my eye, the same stalk and likely internal switch is on 100 models from that era. Anyone know offhand if I am right in that it is used on other models, and have a list of those models so I can yank one or two off junkyard carcasses against the day it quits working? Thanks!

Could be the wiper motor or linkage needs to be lubricated. Rounded column switches interchange between small and large chassis cars any will work up until late 95 model change.

Thanks! I asked because one of the 100s has only 106k on it and the steering column is loose and the wheel is slightly loose. So that would be my "least used" switch compared to the other parts cars, plus the bonus someone has partly disassembled the column. Xlnt.
