Default No Fire Wont Start

I have a 97 A6 Quattro that will not start. It appears that i am not getting power to the ignition module, fuel pump runs starter cranks. I have replaced the crank position sensor since i received no movement on the rpm gauge when cranking. Lets back up some...i drove it home from a friends pulled in the drive and shut the car off with no issues. That night i went out to start it and would not fire. So now ive done as much searching that i can check for power at the fuses in the passenger side under carpet at ecm and have power there. replaced crank sensor but still no movement on rpm. Havent figured out how to check spacing between sensor and crank but put it back with the same spacers and with measuring the old to new sensor the new is about .030 longer and cranked motor removed it again to check for rubbing which its not so the distance should not be an issue.

Default Have you checked to see if the pin the crank sensor reads is there?

If the numbers match you should be fine with a different ecu

I am under the impression that the sensor read off of the counter balance portion of the crankshaft so is there a pin or plug that is on there or are you talking about the portion of the sensor itself?

During my searches in the forums for a similar issue I read that there is a pin on the flywheel(?) that can be knocked off. That pin passing the Hall sensor is what triggers the timing pulse.

Also, seems like it might be a good idea to check out one of those VAG-COM cables on eBay. If your ECU is throwing a code it'll point you in a more focused direction. Cam sensors are also a common problem apparently.

Just wondering....if i check the crank sensor with my multimeter (using ohms) while cranking should a correct reading be fluctuation in ohm on the multimeter due to it passing by the PIN? Have a new cam sensor in hand and will be replacing today. And is there any way to check my engine speed sensor to make sure it is working properly as far as correct distance? I removed it incorrectly but bought the tool (3308)to correctly place it back but unknown whether it is not!

Any suggestions on what would be the best way to locate this PIN on the flywheel?
