1995 A6 - Starting Issues
I have established the following through process of elimination:
- Starter solenoid is fine (shorted this to start car with no issues)
- Battery is fine (as above, no issues starting the car)
- Replaced ignition switch (still didn't fix issue)
- The Ignition relay (J207/208) is pulling in every time I turn the ignition switch, and all contacts are pulling (visually watched with cover off)
My next step is to establish continuity between the ignition wire on the starter solenoid and it's origin from the 208 relay. Can anyone confirm that this is the path that the ignition wire takes? I.E. from starter motor to ignition relay (labelled 208 in a grey box under dash on driver's side alongside other relays) and this relay would be energised via the ignition switch.
The issue is that I have no idea how to gain access to the cabling for the relays under the dash as they are all at the rear of the mounting bases for the relays...
I have searched on here and have found several people come across similar issues, however most of them resulted in the ignition switch or starter motor being the failed part and hence there was no discussion/information about the wiring.
Any help, advice, direction to the right forums/similar issues would be greatly appreciated. I have never owned an Audi and I am only trying to sell this one as It was my Dad's. The forums have been extremely helpful in the last couple of weeks while I've been sorting out little issues here and there with the car.
Thanks
