Default CPO Purchase...from afar

Hello.

I recently buried my beloved 06 A6 and am now in search of her replacement. I am looking at 2013-2015 certified A7 or S7. All have low miles (<14K) There seems to be a handful scattered around the US. Absolutely none near me.

Anyone have any fear about buying sight unseen/undriven? I do...

After all, its been certified..right?

Any experiences/thoughts to share?

Thanks

I sure would not buy one without actually seeing/driving it. While you are assured of its mechanical fitness, you still want to look at the car, sit in it, drive it.

There are many variables that you need to consider, like how the seat feels (there are a number of versions, and they do feel drastically different), options installed etc. and that can only be truly done by a "personal visit".

Know someone purchased a 4 year old cpo car (audi manhattan) with low mileage 1 owner clean autocheck/carfax and when it was traded it every dealer claimed it had rear end paint work and quarter panels done..nothing a PPI and paint meter can't handle prior to purchase.

I would never buy a car without seeing or driving it. My brother bought a 2014 Audi A6 TDI brand new and he drove the car around city and never on the highway since there was so much traffic the day he bought it but he said that it was fine since it was CPO. But when I drove it the week after he bought it with only 5k miles i felt high freq vibration in the car from the rear so we had the dealer do the hunter road force balancing and found 2 of the rear rims were bent and had to be straightened so we made the dealer cover the cost and repair since they missed it during the CPO inspection. Thus, the lesson is to never expect or assume anything that is CPO is done properly unless you drive it and make sure everything is good. I drive my cars on the highway and city speeds and make sure it is driving as it is suppose to before I buy it (new or used).

No way would I buy a car unseen or never driven, regardless of CPO status. I would locate one or two closest to you and take a trip there; if it passes, drive it home on the return.

As others have said, the quality of the cpo depends on the dealer. My cpo was perfect. It was a four month service loaner. Others here have had nightmares with a locally purchased cpo, it was usually dealer issues. There are top notch audi dealer and crap audi dealers. I probably would not hesitate to get a 1 year old cpo from a very reputable dealer sight unseen. But if I had my druthers, fly out to pick it up and drive home. Any excuse for a road trip...

I bought mine sight unseen, shipped it across country. Mine wasn't even from Audi dealer so I took big risk but it was exactly what I had been looking for after searching months for what I wanted in the car. Positive point was it was single owner car, and was maintained by dealer prior to my purchase as lease car.

So far got one trans code popping up 5 months after purchase. Luckily I still have the 3rd party warranty about to use before it expires.
Warranty warranty warranty!! is my advice. Make sure one is available and doesn't limit you from taking it anywhere specifically. that's my 2 cents. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice, everyone.

I see that I am going to end up flying to a few places to check out some cars. Likely don't have time for a road trip if if ends up being east of the Mississippi, unfortunately, so shipping will be the mode.

I will return to mourning and trying to erase that image of my beloved eviscerated A6 with her front end, hood, quarter panels laying askew....

For what it's worth. I loved my previous car too and was sure I'd be put in the ground still owning my 99 supercharged V6 sedan with HUD. I would not have traded it for anything short of a lamborghini and even then I'd miss the familiarity, and ability to work on my own car. It was customized by me from engine internals to PCM/ECM software. I still miss it but lessons learned are being applied to my new Audi.

In an ironic twist. 8 years ago I raced an Audi S4 not knowing anything about Audi and blew it's doors off. My car was modified from stock 220hp to hefty 380hp. After slowing down I noticed the red slant emblem on trunk as car kept going past me, and it left an impression on me not knowing what it was.

Cut to present. Totaled beloved car and only acceptable modern-day equivalent in supercharged V6 coupe with HUD was the A6 for me. I'm now applying knowledge of all previous upgrades I had to build back into the Audi.

Our cars may be gone but not forgotten. They have become stepping stones to bigger and better things as time moves on.

Good luck! and Happy Motoring!
