2005 TT 1.8 new buyer - already repairing something
Picked up 2005 TT automatic with 96k and all the service had been done, including water pump and timing belt replacement at 75k. This past weekend was the perfect convertible weather and loved it. But, 2 things have happened since I bought it:
1) Started smelling a faint odor of gas in the cabin, so took it in to a reputable shop that had great Yelp reviews. Diagnosed as the fuel tank rubber seal (behind the passenger seat) was shot, so replaced that (to the tune of $420 - $130 to diagnose and $290 for labor and parts).
Now, I am still smelling gas (not as bad as before), so my question is, does it take awhile for that smell to completely go away??
2) the shop says that my tachometer is defective - when stopped at an idle, it is at "0", it revs up once I get moving, but he says it should be around 6 or so at idle, and to replace the instrument panel is close to $1,000 ... ugh
I knew this was a car that I was going to eventually have to put money into, but thought by getting one with low mileage and all service had been done, that it wouldn't be this soon.
Starting to wonder if I made the right choice for this vehicle as a 2nd vehicle.

Spill gasoline on a cloth and notice how long the stench lasts . If that was really your issue, you will smell it for a long time.
