Looking to buy a used TT, but recall issue?
New to the forum here so I hope I'm not breaking any rules by posting this...In a hurry since I do have to jump on a deal from craigslist.
So a 2000 TT is up for sale on cl and i see that it has no spoilers. I've read that all the TTs without the spoilers are eligible for a recall. Is this true? How long is the process and what is the process? Would anything be from my pocket if I decide to buy this car (since the recall is really old)?
Thanks guys and any other advice owning a TT or buying a used one please let me know!!
Regarding the spoiler recall, you may want to ignore it. I don't know what you plan for the car, but IMO unspoiled TTs will command a higher price as a collectable in the future since it preserves the original pure form of the car and unspoiled versions are rare. Also, that recall involves changing the front suspension and many believe that the change makes the handling less precise.
Things to look for? Has the timing belt been changed in the past 5 years or 60K miles? If not, the car is a time bomb for a $5K+ repair. Does the glove box latch work perfectly? If not, a $1K+ repair. Do all the instruments in the dash and the center display work well?, If not, a $750 repair. Read this FAQ Fourtitude.com - Audi TT FAQ

Wow..thanks for the info! kind of makes me want to second guess on buying this car...how reliable is it in the long run? The car i'm looking at currently has 145k...and i currently drive a 2000 BMW 325i with 250k with a lean code on...i feel like if i get the lean code fixed it will run great for another year or two...but who knows when another thing will go wrong, right?
