2003 Audi TT Quattro - Clutch replacement
Hoping for some guidance - on my 2003 - have 88K miles, just replaced timing belt and wondering what else I should do preventably... Engine seems great, so now just thinking I should look at the clutch.... How do I know it should be replaced besides slipping?
Don't what to kill the clutch - if there are some things that can be done ahead of time to minimize cost and other damage.

There is really no preventive maintenance on a clutch. Their life depends on how they are used. I've had them last 100k miles. I've also killed one with one clumsy downshift at the track. Unless the slave cyl fails ( and it can) the clutch will get stiffer and then begin to slip under heavy throttle in higher gears before it fails completely and strands you.

I have 167,000 miles on my original clutch. 180 Coupe with GIAC. My shop refuses to replace it because they say there's nothing wrong with it. My driving style is that I never launch from a stop. I have the clutch fully out by less than 1000 RPM's, and then I get on it. I also don't use the clutch going from gear to neutral at a stop. I know the exact moment of equilibrium and snick it into neutral at that exact moment. I don't know how many clutch cycles it has eliminated over the 14 years.
