What car(s) did you cross-shop before buying your A3/S3/RS3?

What car(s) did you cross-shop before buying your A3/S3/RS3?
I actually didn't cross shop any cars when I pulled the trigger on my S3. Coming from a B8.5 S4 I knew that I wanted something a bit more compact and I loved everything about the car I eventually pulled the trigger on. I will admit that I was somewhat intrigued with the Alpha Romeo Giulia but I never got around to checking it out.

I had my mind dead set on the S3 right from the start. I entertained the idea of the M235i, but I really couldn't get over the crap interior or lack of practicality. Like you, I was definitely intrigued by the Alfa Giulia, but I opted for the "tried and true" option.
In its class, I think the S3 is the best package for the money.

The only car that I crossed-shopped was my 10 year old RS4. I'm going to miss how smooth and stealth the RS4 is (and it's low end grunt), but the RS3 is the only car that could replace it.

TT-RS. Couldn't justify the +10k over the RS3 and decided I wanted to try having the extra doors. The RS3 really looks nice and wouldn't be "not my old mk1 TT".

my next car was going to be an IS350 for as long as I could remember.
once I started shopping, preferred the S3's smaller size.
the IS350 still felt more luxurious, but the virtual cockpit and tech in the audi surpassed it by far. overall the S3 was just more fun to drive imo.
