i've gone through the settings menu a couple of times. didn't see anything. i've just gotten used to pushing the retract button. it's pretty easy to reach. plus i like that the screen is up most of the time so i can scroll through my music.

You might be able to find something through VCDS to prevent it from rising at start up. The issue I could see, though, is that most people will be reversing out of a driveway or parking space shortly after startup, so the screen will lift to show you the reversing camera regardless.

If you have MMI off, it should not extend on startup until you put it in reverse at which point it should pop up for the backup camera, and then retract again automatically once you get over 12 MPH. I forget which video it was, but there's a video of a guy who has this setup.
