Default MMI Screen Heat Reflector?

So after weeks of driving around in 100 degree heat, I realized the back of the MMI screen could cook an egg. I'm worried about its longevity, and have begun just driving around with it down to prevent any sort of damage to the panel underneath,

Has anyone ever wrapped the back of their MMI is some sort of reflective film? I was thinking some 3M white vinyl, but I dont know if that would be better or worse, since the vinyl may trap the heat more than it reflects.

I don't necessarily mind it being down, since I really don't like the look of it anyway, but half the time I forget to put it down, or want to see what song is on, or want to use CarPlay and cant because I leave it down.

Any ideas?

maybe a clear or 90% ceramic tint on your entire windshield would eliminate some of the heat casting down on your mmi screen.

I was thinking that as well. But on the other hand, I would imagine it's not a problem for the MMI screen as this is not the first vehicle to employ the popup screen. Plenty of people are in very hot climates. I don't recall ever seeing reports of malfunctioning screens due to heat. I would also hope the likes of Audi have done their R&D homework.

Timmay, +1 I would certainly hope so as well.

However, it does bring up another thought. To minimize temps inside the car and UV damage to dash, etc. when parked outside, especially in hot weather, what (if any) custom sunshades do y'all use?

Likes / Dislikes / Vendor to Use (or Avoid)?? Thanks.

At least we can retract the pop-up screen, unlike most of the newer cars that have the tablet fixed on the dash. With the VC, I expect to leave the pop-up screen retracted most of the time, especially in hot weather (which isn't very common in the PNW).

Agreed. LOL and yes you're absolutely right about the PNW weather!

I would agree they probably built it to withstand the heat, and maybe its just my mounting frustration with the firmware, but it just feel like the entire MMI/MiB in this car was an afterthought and put together as cheaply as possible. Most of my time is spent sitting on the parking lot that is the DC beltway, so I know the screen gets a solid sun bath at least two hours a day.
