Default Why not a RS3 Sportback?

Am I the only one wanting a RS3 Sportback? The videos online seem to indicate that Americans in general are not fond of hatchbacks. I think they are wrong. Just look at the popularity of hot hatches in North America! It appears that Audi threw in the towel and let MB step all over them with the AMG GLA 45. Hey Audi, bring us the sportbacks!

Nope. I would MUCH prefer a Sportback than the sedan. There are no plans to bring the sportback to the US though.

There is very little demand for the Sportback body style in North America especially when the sedan body style is experience a drop in sales due to North Americans' insatiable appetite for Crossovers, SUVs, and Monster Trucks. The business case to bring in the RS3 sportback and sell it alongside its sedan sibling is very weak. Sportbacks just don't sell enough over here. Same reason why the RS4 and RS6 sportbacks were never sold in North America.

Just for comfort, I am with you on body style. I much prefer the sportback body over the sedan. It proves that it can be both a practical hauler and a sports car.

HATCHBack guy here too. Ever since I was 6 and my Dad got a 5 door hatch Ford Scorpio, my brother and I both became hatchback fans for life.

Would have sold my soul for the RS3 wagon if they would have offered it here.

Dad's 5 door Ford Scorpio hatchback.
Then inherited my brother's 86 Suzuki Samurai day after i got my driver's license (sort of a hatchback, in that the whole damn rear canvas roof is a "hatch" lol)
Inherited my brother's 3 door Ford Escort hatchback
Inherited my brother's 3 door Mercury Cougar hatchback
Then my first car I bought out of college when i got my first job was a 2002 Mazda Protege Wagon.
For about the last 12months, drove an old supercharged C230 3 door hatchback as daily driver until I got the RS3.

Hatchbacks are cool. Part of me is surprised I got a Boxster and not a Cayman for the hatch alone. ha

I wish they brought the hatch over. Makes the space so much more usable vs the tiny trunk on the sedan.

I personally like the look of the sporthatch better. In my opinion, it looks more proportional since the sedan has a very short rear. I think Audi missed out of being the king of hot hatches here in North America. I guess the joke is on MB. If the AMG GLA 45 gets a power boost and an interior makeover, I will likely go over to MB. I'm seeing more and more of these on the road. I like their exhaust as well. The RS3 Sportback would be my perfect DD. Oh well, time to move on I guess.

No, you're not the only one. I prefer the RS3 Sportback. The sedan has grown on me though.

I like the sportback style too, but I like small sporty sedans as well. I have both in any case since I purchased the first A3 sportback back in 2005 when they became available here in the US. Interestingly one of the main reasons I bought the A3 was the introduction of DSG.

i'm in the minority (in this thread)

would not buy a rs3 wagon. i skipped the wrx sti when they went to the hatch. bought myself an evo x. the only wagon that i would ever consider is the rs6...but it's out of reach in terms of price.
