1700 RS3 built so far
I found the VINs of a number of RS3 on the web. Some were newly built. It looks to me the first 500 were 2017. The highest RS3 sequence number I found was 01717. Interesting, the sequence number for the TT RS already reached about 1000.
If the sequence numbers indeed match up with the number of cars built, I think they are building a high number of them. Unless they stop or slow down production at some point, the RS3 may not be as rare as we expected. I was also surprised by the number of TT RS.
Did I get the numbers right?

1700 is not that many for a global release, really. Supposedly, they're going to stop production of 2018s in December. If that's true and if production started in May (which IIRC is about right), the pace of production stays as it has been, and they're at 1700 now, then the early estimates of 3500 or so produced look to be about right.
