Default Anybody elses RS3 do this?

Doesnt always do this...just sometimes.
Get in, start it up, and "Do Not Exceed 5500 RPM" yellow light comes on. Car gets warm and light turns off. Nothing in the manual says this is normal behaivor, just says that the light can come on if the car gets too hot.

Audi dealer thinks its normal. Says the R8 does it, the TTRS they have does it and the other RS3 they had did it. But they dont know for sure.

They think the car is just telling you not to exceed a certain rpm till its up to operating temp.

I think its weird because it only does it every once in awhile.

Mine does/says this every time it is started cold. Goes away after a short time. As I understand it will actually prevent you from exceeding that RPM, it's not just a warning...but I haven't tested this.

This is a safety precaution to keep from highly revving the motor until it gets warmed up a little. No big deal.

safety feature to protect engine. my old EVO X MR had it too, except there's no warning message. it just won't let you go into sport/super sport settings. well it'll let you, but it drives like in D until engine warms up.

This is a cool feature and it's nice to hear that manufacturers are adding this. I always made a mental note to let my WRX warm up but often thought how easy it would be to add an automatic warning.

Mine does it too, but not always. I don't understand the logic. It should be automatic like when oil temperature < 150F or something like that ...

Mine did it only after I disabled seat belt warning and does it every morning or if it cools right down.

Glad its normal, and glad the car does it, that way when my wife is driving it she's aware not to go over said RPM till its warm.

I did read, that the car has an auto circulation oil pump for the turbo. So when you turn the car off it circulates oil through the turbo for awhile. But it still said after driving it hard to let it cool down a bit before just shutting it off. That was in the Tech Manual for the old one but I imagine if the old version had that then The new one does as well.

Even better - even if your wife wants to floor it after backing out of your garage, she can't exceed the lower 5500 rpm - the engine ECU actually has a lower rev limiter at 5500 rpm when the redline shows 5500 after that startup warning. When the tachometer changes back to the 7000 redline display is when the ECU allows the higher revs.

This isn't new, BTW - our 2014 S7 does the same thing on the turbo V8. When started cold, the redline is around 5000, and only goes back up to 6500 rpm after the engine has warmed up adequately.
