Default 2018 RS3 Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL)

I received my '18 RS3 in mid-July and was able to enjoy it for a few weeks before the MIL came on. I brought it to the dealer (Canada) and they've now had it for three weeks with no resolution in sight.

The dealer told me the initial scan produced a fuel related code. They told me they'd need to update the software and see if that would resolve the issue. It took a week for them to do this. At the end of the week (and after being frustrated having not had any updates), they told me they needed to create a TAC and were working with Audi to troubleshoot moving forward.

Week two they said they were going to inspect the fuel injectors, how long does this typically take? We're now on week three and they said they've only inspected five fuel injectors, and are unsure of whether or not they need to order parts.

The service rep told me if they had to order them, they would be direct from Audi (Germany) and would take 8-10 business days to arrive. He said if that's the case (they're still unsure), it would likely be another 2-3 weeks before I get my car back.

I just wanted to get this out there in case anyone is having similar issues. This is my first experience servicing an Audi, and I can't say I'm thrilled to be without my new vehicle for now three weeks, and what could be a lot longer. In addition to being without my vehicle, I'm incredibly frustrated by the lack of updates from the dealer. I have to call them every few days to ask for an update, and every time the service rep says he'll keep me in the loop (and never does).

Anyone have thoughts, or have encountered a similar situation?

Wow, sorry to hear about your troubles. I will go out on a limb and suggest your situation is rare? I personally have not had any issues like you are talking about. I can't help but wonder whether your particular dealer is a big part of the problem however. Not giving you updates regularly is inexcusable, regardless of make and model, let alone a high end Audi like the RS3. Did they provide you a loaner vehicle in the meanwhile? I hope your problem gets resolved soon.

I'm sorry to hear, but if it makes you feel any better my car went through the same thing. Luckily for me the dealer was able to fix within a week. First they replace the fuel sensor which didn't work, then they replaced the low pressure fuel pump and that still didn't work. Long story short it had something to do with the tube that connected to the fuel pump. Everytime the car accelerated the tube would disconnect and thus caused low fuel pressure and the check engine/malfunction light.

My dealership was very thorough and kept me informed every step of the way. The reason they are so vague is because, truth be told, they don't know much about the car. The car is brand new to the U.S. and supposedly when they plugged the car into their diagnostic tool, everything came out in German. That is why they had to reach out to Audi NA technical support, which took them 2-3 days to finally get back, translate and walk them through to find the problem. Long story short, it was the the tube that connected to the fuel pump as I mentioned. Luckily for me, the dealership had a TTRS which shares the same part and asked if I was ok with them replacing the part with the one from the brand new TTRS. Otherwise it would've taken a few more days because, like you said the parts come from Germany. I wanted the car back ASAP so I elected to go with the TTRS part.

It's been a week since and no problems and the car is running great. It did suck not having the car for a week and I was worried when they replaced the fuel sensor, and low pressure fuel pump and the problem was not corrected. I panicked and my imagination got the best of me as I started to look up lemon laws, contacted my attorney general and even started looking for lawyers that specialized in lemon laws...lol.

I hope they resolve your issue soon.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I picked up the car today, I was informed on Friday that the MIL turned off (on its own) and that someone from service would be taking the car on a test drive over 50km. They informed me that, originally, the code produced a fuel error at 85km/hr under 20% throttle. They tested it over the weekend, and the MIL did not return.

They ended up releasing the car to me today after doing another road test. In the end, they didn't replace anything, and I'm just hoping it doesn't produce another error in the coming weeks. Four weeks without a new car is a long time, and although they did provide me a loaner, it wasn't quite the same.

That being said, the dealer did an awful job at keeping me in the loop. I ended up contacting Audi Canada to bring up the issue. I'm sure nothing will come of it -- unfortunately they are the only dealer within close proximity, so I guess I'll just have to deal with it.

On another note -- the fuel economy rating on the virtual cockpit read 40L/100km when I picked it up. I'm not sure how wild of a ride the service person went on, but that seems insane to me.

Ouch! If my math is correct that is less than 6 miles per gallon. I'm sorry to say but that certainly seems like the test driver really laid into it during the so-called road test. Wonder how much tire tread is left!

More than likely they left it idling a long time vs. hammering it and getting such low mileage.

I just got this MIL on as well on Monday, it's on when stuck in traffic, so weird than it's go off when after fill up the gas.

Drop it off to the dealer on Tuesday, and they told me today the problem is fuel low pressure. Waiting for they resolve it.

I just picked it up for 3 weeks.

that's insane. sorry to hear about the issue. they gave you a loaner at least right? i'd drive the crap out of that thing and take solace in the fact that the kms ur doing isn't with the RS3. i wonder if the sudden drop in temperature affects the car. knock on wood i haven't seen anything yet and it's -20c here.

They gave me a loaner, it was just a normal temperature like -5c, but I stucked in a traffic for an hour.

It is kinda sad for a 3 weeks old rs3. I hope it won't has other problems coming. It is kinda frustrated that problems come up for 3 weeks.
