Tuning vs. ECU Remap vs Both

Tuning vs. ECU Remap vs Both
Looking into the next phase of updates for my '15 Audi A3.
Contemplating which is better for, getting just a tuner, ECU remap or both. From experience with motorcycles, a ECU remap has always been the way to go as tuners inherently have issues based on modifications done to the engine, etc. Does the same rule apply to cars? It is simply better to get an ECU remap rather than just the tuner? Also recommendations on the best/reliable company to select.
