Default Strange problem with central locking and remote key adoptation - Audi A6 C5 2003

Hi everybody, I'm new in here also I hope that I created the thread in correct place.

Bought an Audi A6 C5 2003, the car itself look clean, with everything in places. It got electrical windows, sunroof, front seat controls, heating seat and etc so on everything works as it should. The only problem that I saw is that the cruise control does not work (when placing cruise control to position on - no light on the dash light up as well no speed were fixed), checked with VCDS 12.12 the ECU sees when the cruise control is turned on (0 replaces with 1).

But that's not the biggest uncracked egg that is bothering me. Also I'm dealing with an strange thing - there are two remote keys, both of them unlocks and lock the car in the driver's door lock (remote does not work). They also do start the car, but I coudn't make them lock and unlock car remotely. When unlocking with driver doors - it unlocks only driver's door (no blinkers blink), then after turning on ignition the car unlocks all doors (the key inside the car which must lock and unlock doors from inside also works like a charm). When locking doors through driver's door - all doors are locked and blinkers blink.

Here is what I found out:

Went to diagnostics: they tried to adopt the key, but at VCDS the 35 as also the 46 controller drops "No respond from controller" when connecting. In fact then trying to access no. 35 - central locks, something ticking near obd port, but no respond were thrown. When connecting to 46 - no ticking is heard.

Went to the dude that uses tool for key adaptation: tested both keys (batteries are new) - both transmitting the signal. When trying to adapt them - no success, as he said he goes to programming mode but could not adapt keys.

Looked everywhere on the forums, even tried to unplug the radio witch is not stock - no success. Also tried many key adaptation principals using one in the ignition position other locking the door from outside, even thru the boot lock, still no God D**n luck.

Teared apart the interior carpet to check out the CCM unit and find this inside:

There is little bit of moisture under the carpet (more like condesated water). Cleaned with 99% alcohol and placed back - same results. Alright. Now it really got me p***d off. :banghead: Everything works as expected (all electrical features including central locking). Went and tested the other CCM with the same matching part number (opened it, all PCB looks perfect) tested - still no results, could not connect to controllers 35 or 46.

Where else should I check? What am I missing, what doing wrong? Checked the fuses at the side of the dashboard - all good.
Also is there any chance of trying to adopt the key thru instruments section using VCDS?

Any advice or ideas would be much appreciated and will be very thankful for helping to solve out this strange thing.

Adding latest auto-scan (seems that car only gives access to limited numbers of controllers, it does not read the errors from CCM):

I would try a new CCM unit. The part number is on the plastic case. Pretty cheap on ebay.

Hmm, the latest version of full VCDS is 18.2

I wonder if that might be a reason that you cannot read CCM?

VCDS version 12's should work with an 03 car, but worth a try to update to 18.2. I don't think that's the problem though, since on the vcds log, 35 and 46 showed up.
I'm assuming the module pictured was the central locking module and not cruise, which is under dash near heater blower.

I think there is something wrong with the wiring or connectors. Just a wild guess, but perhaps the connector(s) to the instrument cluster is not fully plugged in. Or some bad connections through ignition switch. The first thing I would do is pull the instrument cluster and check the plugs and wiring there. Could the aftermarket radio be a clue pointing to problems with wiring caused during installation?

Thanks everybody for ideas.

About VCDS version - today did an auto-scan for an Audi A4 '03, scanned everything well, even CCM (46 module). There is obvious that this isn't software problem, because the guy with different key programmer could not connect to CCM for key adaptation.

Actually just glanced at the log that I add before - there is no 46 module showed up, only 35 (the one that more likely tries to connect to VCDS).

I think there is no more that I can do by myself, probably tried everything and must visit someone who understands car's electronics. Strange actually because the car looks clean, nothing is teared apart or something. Didn't know anything how the radio was installed, because it was already installed when I bought the car. Anyone got any ideas how it is possible to test this?

About instrument cluster plugs - it's more about cruise control or connecting to CCM fix?
Maybe there are any fuses for OBD connection controllers under the hood? I guess there are some fuses also - there is the only place I haven't check the fuses already.

Thanks again!

I missed that 46 was not on the list, but the 35 is the one for central locking. I would address the central locking issues and worry about the CCM after you have sorted the locking problem. All this stuff (CLM and CCM) connects to the instrument cluster and wiring an aftermarket radio typically involves hooking up to the cluster. You can pull the cluster and check the plugs and see if there is any sketchy wiring hookups from the new radio. Not difficult. To pull cluster you pop off the plastic cover that is over the steering column and in front of the cluster. This exposes the 2 screws that hold the cluster. These screws are tight so use a good phillips head screwdriver to remove them. Then you slide out the cluster and you will see all the wiring harness connectors. Look for loose wires and carefully inspect the connectors. If nothing obvious, you will need a wiring diagram to track all the plug pinouts and test accordingly. At that point it sounds like you should bale and find a pro. If you're lucky it's just a screw up related to the radio installation. The next place I would look is the wiring harness that connects to the central locking module that showed water damage. At some point your carpets were soaked and that harness was soaked, too. Maybe leave this to a pro who is familiar with Audi wet carpet issues and that harness wiring.

I would also suggest that you make sure the water damage does not happen again. Two common sources for the C5 chassis: the battery tray drain gets clogged with debris, and the water collects there and overflows into the passenger side of the floor; AC evaporator drain, which is on the lower A-pillar side under the trim. Search the archives for photos on checking these. Less common is the sunroof drain, but that usually results in a stained headliner, not damage to modules under the carpet.

Good luck!

People say that none of the problems are bringed on when solved - so that took a while for me to solve this.

One great mechanic told me to call the guy who may help me. The guy that working on audi's and vw's more than 20 years. Left the car to him - after one day I called him to ash how was it going - he replayed just finished checking everything - didn't find nothing suspicious.

He also got an VCDS witch somehow amazingly managed to connect to my CCM with multiple interior light blinks it managed to get most of the problem codes, but nothing that could not make an new key matching.

After many time spend we thought to find another CCM with same number together with full wires and that CCM key. After I got this for relatively cheap like 25 euros.

Guess what? We connected new one CCM and it doesn't work. The new CCM looks perfect. The guy stands up, scratches his head an said: I don't know what else could be wrong... When unplugged the antenna wire from main wire block ant connected simple wire to try mach the key with VCDS and it somehow successes - the problem was not only with CCM module but also with antenna wire.

It was all fixed quite cheaply but took a lot patience to not call the priest to move out the devils out of this car.
The VCDS that I got is still intresting why it still do not read new CCM.

Glad you resolved it. So the antennae wire was the issue?
You say his VCDS connected and yours did not? What are the specifics of each VCDS? Brand names, models, etc.
