Default Replacing strut shocks

Replaced original shocks with Bilsteins 100,000 miles ago. Now they need replacement again. Although they supposedly had a lifetime warranty Bilstein won’t cover. Do you suggest replacing with same or is there another brand you prefer? Not looking to track the car just a better shock than OEM.

I use the Koni FSD set, which maintain comfortability while still providing a sportier suspension. It likely needs to be added along with stiffer springs. I believe TireRack has a kit on sales right now. I did this change some years back and it really transforms the way the A6 drives. I also added 18 in wheels at the time, but the improvement was worth every cent. Obviously more costly that just replacing the Bilsteins.

I'm curious as to why Bilstein won't honor the lifetime warranty... Care to comment?

When my shop installed them maybe 8-9 years ago I was told they had a lifetime warranty even if they wore out. Now the warranty is only for defects. Don’t know if they changed the warranty, if my shop misrepresented, or if I misremember. I do know of other companies that have just changed their warranty and simply told old customers who bought under the better warranty to pound sand. I even still have the purchase receipt, but not a printed warranty.

Life moves on.

That's a shame... I guess that I'll be looking for Koni shocks going forward (BTW, I never had a Koni shock wear out..)

Also, Bilstein warranty is cumbersome in that you have to replace them with new Bilstein shocks and pay for them. Then ship yours to Bilstein and let them evaluate for defects. If they agree then they reimburse you.
