Having trouble with Lucas floating calipers on an A6

So i inherited this mess from another mechanic. Car comes in with no brake pedal and rotors grinding. Car has the Lucas floating 4 pad calipers in the front.
The guy put the wrong rotors on it cause they were grinding into the actual knuckle. and the calipers look like this
Notice how the caliper is grinding right where the pads are but the pads look new? I put the correct size rotors on it and still have the same problem. What am I missing?

Are you certain the pads are free to contact the rotor? Can you slide the mechanism easily by hand? Does the piston move freely? Pump the brakes and verify.

Clancy didn't ask if the parts were new. The pads look new but show signs that the caliper isn't moving freely once installed. The caliper mounts on two pins and must be able to slide in and out on those pins. It is common for brake dust and dirt to cake up on the pins and hinder their movement. All points of contact for the caliper should be clean and rust free. During reassembly a very light film of anti-seize lube on the sliding surfaces and pins is a good idea. You also need to make sure your rotors are the correct ones for the car as there are several variations available depending on what brakes are to be installed.
