Timing chain help

Timing chain help
I just need to know approximately how long until it goes out on me, how much (approximately) it will cost to replace it, how difficult is it to do because i prefer to do the work on my vehicles on my own or outside of a shop because of labor costs and im mechanically inclined. Also any recommendations on brands of timing chain if there are any annnd if there are any ways to make the current timing chain last a little longer. The engine has a ticking sound amd ive done enough looking to know its my timing chain or something to do with it but its not that bad or loud and the car doesnt shudder very hard.

I am now on my fourth C5 in action. The first went 250K miles without any chain problems (2.8 5 valve). The second went 285K miles without any chain problems (2.7T). The third is now at 220K miles without any chain problems (2.7T). The fourth is at 165K miles without any chain problems (2.7T).
I doubt that it is your chain making the noise. I'm guess a lifter that won't pump up due to dirty oil.

You can purchase a belt kit (includes water pump, thermostat, rollers and idler) for some where in the $400-$500 range. You need to use a cam locking bar tool and a crank lock pin. If you can't rent those then another $100-$150. Depending on labor rates in Davenport an indy shop would most likely do the job for around $1500, give or take. I paid $1600 for this job in Tucson a year and a half ago on a 4.2 liter motor. If everything isn't done correctly you can cause some major problems that will be very expensive to fix. There is another recent post on here that had that very thing happen because he got some bad guidance supposedly from a dealership's shop. Not trying to be negative here, just thinking forewarned is forearmed! Also what george said. Do a filter and oil change and see if that helps before dumping a lot of money on other ideas.
