Default A4 wheels on an A6: rubbing issue

I picked up some A4 OEM wheels really cheap. They have the factory Hankook tires with probably 50%or better tread left. I put them on my 99 A6 Avant. The A6 being originally 16" and the new wheels 17".

Side

Inner
Rears look OK. Front wheels seem like they are touching at the top of the hub housing near the curve at the link bars. Brake Clearence and fitment everywhere else seems fine. The rims are 17x7.5 ET45. Tires are 235/45R17 97w Hankook V2. Is the A4 suspension geometry that different from the A6 that these wheels would be an issue? Is it a tire width issue. Would spacers be a bad idea? I'm low on money, so I was hoping to use these until winter and then turn them into my winter wheels. IdI get better rims for warm weather next year. Any ideas on a quick fix?

Thanks.

It is an obvious width issue on those rims. Looking at photo #1, it appears the rims are offset inward compared with stock units. In other words the opposite of "deep dish" rims like we used on muscle cars in the '60's & '70's. Quick fix is to sell those rims and tires and get new tires.

The A6 16" OEM rims are ET45. The A4 rims are ET45. Clearence is different on the 16 vs 17 die to the curvature of the wishbone hub housing. Still, I would not think that the mid 2000's A4 suspension up front would be that much different. The S4 rims are OEM stock. Complete wheels. Looking at places like Tirerack and such, it seems the most recommended A6 backspacing for an upgrade to 17" is ET35. So if I sell them, or can, I would be looking for something ET 25 - 32.

Anyone know if running 10 or 15mm spacers on the front and nothing on the back would be horribly bad? Probably be temporary.

Should not be a problem to run spacers. Make sure that your lug bolts have full thread engagement (longer bolts will probably be necessary) and check the torque on those bolts regularly.

I would avoid spacers.....I had a couple of the original wheels that were scratched and one was bent a little. I bought 4 aftermarket 17" wheels online said to fit the A6 2.7T. Well, they didn't. They rubbed on the brake caliper in the front.....So, I bought spacers 1/2", I think and put 'em on. Needed new lug bolts, both longer and different style taper. The spacers were slotted where the lug bolts go and I could never get them centered enough to eliminate shaking....So I bought some hub-centric rings to keep the spacers centered. Shake was better, but still there. The tires wore REALLY fast (low profile). I finally gave up and tried giving the wheels away on Craig's list for free with no takers except those who wanted me to ship 'em at my expense. Ended up throwing both wheels and tires in the landfill!!!! Never again. Still using my scratched up originals.
