Default Seeking Help

Hello I own a black A4 and earlier I attempted to self repair a fairly deep scratch. I used (what I assumed to be) a very fine sandpaper designed for wet dry sanding and worked the scratch along with the occasional dose of soapy water. Following the removal of the scratch from the clear coat I polished the area twice with Mothers Polish (number "1" in the mother's three step system) and then twice with Mothers Micro polish (number "2" in the mothers three step system) and finished off with the Mothers Carbuba wax (number "3" int he mothers three step system.

The attached photos show that I am no where CLOSE to done. I approached resolution in three ways: a professional auto body shop that quoted me $580 to repaint the entire bumper, a local guy who does auto detailing and said $85 and about 1 hour of polishing is all this will take and 3 looking into my own orbital polisher and just working the area some more with polish...may-be investing in a better polish and using the orbital polisher to hopefully achieve a better result.

My questions are did I clearly breach the clear coat and hit paint? Can this be polished out? Is repainting my only option?
