I think a rock either got kicked up from the front wheels or by another car and dented and scraped off some paint on my right rear quarter panel. I had the PDR guy fix the dent already so now I'm left with a half inch area with some paint missing. I have some Audi Glacier white touch-up paint and was going to just dab some on there and be done with it, but I know it won't look very good. Someone in the A5 forum mentioned Dr. Colorchip. Should I consider that? Or should I stick with the genuine Audi touch-up paint? If I want to go the Audi touch-up paint route, what is the proper way to apply it?
Yeah, you could be right. I've fooled around with the Dr Colorchip system a fair amount and have gained some skill at making repairs. You have to be patient and possibly work at it over a couple of sessions to build up the paint thickness to make it all level. They have a tiny silicone rubber squeegee that I would use on your repair. I think you have to buy that as an extra item. You can always completely wipe away your paint repair if you aren't happy with the way it's progressing.
Only purchase a small amount of paint - - it doesn't last long.
Somebody did similar damage to our car this past weekend. I think we only lost clearcoat when the d-bag whacked our door.
Not to bring this back from the dead, but stay away from dealer touch up paint. I used Ford touch up paint for my 13 Mustang GT. Got the right color code for it, and it is a pain to work with, nor does it blend well. I ended up going to a pro, and using Dr. Colorchip through them. Dr. Colorchip is well known in the detailer world for touch ups, use that instead of OEM touch up paint.
