Loud ticking noise in engine, but then went away?
So yesterday, my car was at the park & ride for about 10 hours in -30 F (Minnesota). Turned on (barely cranked over, probably due to the extreme cold), and drove the 1.5 miles home. Sat in the garage where the temp was probably 0ish. The next morning, I turn on the car, backed out the driveway and started driving down the block (about 5 seconds). All of the sudden, my oil pressure light turns on, then starts flashing red. I quickly turn around and get back to my garage (another 10 seconds). Before I shut it down, I hear a loud ticking noise from under the hood. I shut it down and go in the house to work from home. I figured I'd wait a few hours for the temp to go up before I figure this out. Near the end of the day (3:00p), I check the oil level (fine), then turn the car on. Again, loud noise from the engine. I open the hood and the sound is very loud. I could have sworn it sounded like the pistons hitting the valves, very loud and constant. My thoughts were that the timing belt skipped and I bent my valves. Go inside to finish up with work (another 2 hours), then decide ok, one last time before I think about junking the car. When I start it up, I am totally shocked that the noise was no longer there. It just ran like it always does. Drove it a few miles with no issues, no noise. I'm just totally stumped. Could it be my oil pump intermittently failing? Anyone experience anything like this? Any suggestions?
Thanks,
