Default I guess a dremel, maybe a hole saw

but the hole saw might be to rough and break the fins.

I just skipped that whole idea and pulled the center vent and cut a piece of plexiglass that fit there. Painted the plexiglass black...looks fine

Default put it on a drill press

and use an attachment to cut the right size hole into the vent.

You don't think it will brake the fins?

Default For a mount like this?

what I did was put the cardboard that was around the gauge in the packaging on the back of the vent since the back is flat and used the cardboard as a template. Then I used a small blade copping saw. Cut inside the ring of the template by hand. So I didn't mess up the blades of the vent. Then I used a stationary drill with a sanding drum slightly smaller than the hole and slowly rounded and smoothed out the hole, checking it for size frequently. Came out with a perfect round hole. Painted the back of the gauge flat black and what you see here are the results.

Default I would take a block to a band saw and put slits to hold the fins stable

Default don't they sell the center vents already like that?

it will look way cleaner that way....

You may want to look into the gauge pods. I'd imagine you'de be able to look at them a little more while looking at the road.
