Q7 2007 w/ MMI 2G High system. The cd changer broke, I thought who needs one of those anymore, better swap it for an AMI module, my car didn't have one of those from the factory (there are no electronics under the armrest). I read around and ordered AMI MOST 4E0 035 785 F. Out with the changer and in with the AMI, both wiring plugs fit perfectly. The car obviously detects the new module, because there is info about it in the red menu:
However when I hit Media there is no Source selection option:
I had read that the Aux function needs to be enabled form the green menu, but I discovered that the "APK 0x01" section where I'm supposed to do that is simply missing from my green menu:
Now I'm trying to figure out weather there's something wrong with the electronics of my car, or I'm not doing something correctly. Below is info about my MMI system, hopefully someone with more knowledge than me will suggest what to do next. Thanks in advance to anyone who joins the discussion!
The AMI is outdated tech; I'd be adding the Carplay kit (compatible with Android/iOS phones), if it's available for your car's MMI system...that's the way to go. Go look at carsie.net to use their lookup tools and see what options you have for upgrading your tech, MMI firmware, Nav maps if enabled, etc.
Don't buy the hardware there; it's overpriced, but their MMI /Nav updates are good value, and you can see what's compatible with your car to modernize it.
If you are determined to stick with adding the outdated AMI, then you need to understand how the green menu works, and find good instructions for what you want to do; retrofit AMI, etc. Don't try to 'wing-it' in the green menu, as that's a recipe for creating problems for yourself. You can really mess up your car by playing around in the green menu, as their is a ton of stuff in there. Once you select the AMI to tell the car it's installed, then you would also have to go into a separate area to tell the car how the AMI should function, etc., so there's a learning curve to deleting/adding features to this car. I always start with a Google search on keywords, and usually find what I need for reference.
