Lights do not turn on at night - AUTO lights sensor failure?
I have a 2007 Q7. Recently the lights do not turn on anymore at night even if the switch is on AUTO.
Initially it was kind of a random failure. I decided to change the gel pad that was visibly old. I bought one on eBay and installed it.
Not much has changed. As I reconnected the wiring to the sensor, it worked. But then stopped working after one or two days. If I disconnect and reconnect the sensor (the one behind the read view mirror), again it starts working but only for a few days.
Do you think I simply need a new sensor? Or is it possibly a different electrical problem?
Any advice is appreciated!

Scan the car completely and see what turns up before you start replacing parts via the guessing method. You'll need the correct type of scan tool; a VAG (Volkswagen Auto Group) compatible diagnostic scantool. Frankly I'm shocked you don't have one already with a 2007, unless you just bought it and are new to this vehicle. Problem could be in the control module, the sensor, the connector, etc...always, always scan the car for trouble codes/faults. This car won't talk to normal OBD2 scanners...has to be a VAG-compatible, or you'll still be guessing.
