do you set battery code every time battery is disconected
Audi Q7 2007 4.2 v8. I know you have to set a battery code in VCDS when a new battery installed.
Is it necessary when the battery is disconnected every time?
I have been chasing a power drain problem and have been removing the battery posts when charging the battery.
thanks

You should have duplicate battery posts up by the firewall, under the 'bonnet'/hood, so you don't need to disconnect the actual battery posts to charge it, as that is going to throw a trouble code out on just about every major system on this car, which then all have to be cleared. So far as battery drains go, by far the most common on the Q7 are the door handle sensors...they go bad on all Q7s. If you will search for "Got Parasitic Battery Drains", I created a thread just to help resolve this specific issue quickly, and without cost...it literally takes about 15 minutes to do all four doors. You should scan the car with a VAG-compatible diagnostic scantool first, of course, which will show you which specific doors have 'grounded-out', and are creating the parasitic drains.
