You always want to know where you are going and why on any specific issue, and that's where the forum archives can help you out...there's 15 years of data here, the Ross-Tech Wiki, and forum members to get help from. Just be sure to include enough details/data on your situation and car. In example; not really sure what you mean by "I tried pressing the reset button." Is that underneath the wiper stalk, on the dash buttons next to MMI screen, what reset button are you referring to?Scan the car with a VAG (Volkswagen Auto Group)-compatible scantool, or you'll just be spending money and getting frustrated. Likewise, if you get a low-level scantool for personal use on this car, you are not likely going to be happy with the results, since those tools don't have much functionality or ability to resolve any problem issues internal to the car.

Pressing the rocker switch at the end of the stock will flip through all the info within that trip, average speed, millage, temp whatever screens there were in 07.
Older B6 A4's were notorious for these red and black LCD's failing, but usually they would dim or have dead pixels, not the whole screen be blank.
