Default 2007 Q7 3.6L Front Brake Pad / Rotor Replacement Question

Does anyone know what size the 2 bolts are that secure the caliper carrier / bracket? I need to make sure I have the proper impact socket before I do the job. Pic is taken from tutorial...

Those fronts carrier bolts are standard sizes, but make sure you have 15mm, on hand, as it appears in random areas of this car; it is a good idea to spray bolts with PB Blaster if taking off rotors, as they tend to get tight/corroded on exposed threads, etc. Also, you will find a breaker bar to be very helpful on removal of old bolts, as well as the lug nuts on your wheels. If you have air tools or battery powered, those can be a time saver on tear-down, but you want put back together manually, and torque all items properly. It's a great idea to replace those carrier bolts, especially if corroded. Be prepared to descale the hub face of corrosion so you can get a good clean surface for the rotor to sit flush against...mine took a fair amount of work to clean up all the hubs and corroded carrier bolts & lugnuts. I didn't think to order new bolts, as I bought a 'brake kit' but I will next time.

That tutorial picture looks like an ATE sliding caliper, but what you are asking is the size of the caliper mounting bolt.

Here is a Touareg tutorial thread on the front pads and rotor replacement. This is what my caliper looks like. It says 13/16" socket (depending on the SAE socket's tolerance. 21 mm would be the correct fit as all bolts are metric) for the front caliper bolts. 13 mm for the pad pin (single pin version). Get new caliper bolts from the dealer. I used new bolts each time and torqued to spec, even if these bolts are not torqued-to-yield with an angle turn. This thread says 270 Nm (199 lb/ft).

The rear caliper uses a triple square bit. I do not remember the size, but this thread says XZN16 (16 mm triple square in post #13) and torqued to 180 Nm (133 lb/ft). The 17" rotor with single pad pin does not require a socket to remove. A metal clip retains the pad pin.

Changing the rotor requires you to adjust the parking brake shoes (even if you do not replace the shoes), because the drum sizes may be slightly different.
