Default Cracked Adblue Cap - covered under TDI Warranty?

The adblue cap on my Q7 is cracked. Cost to replace is around $38 which is fine. But I'm just wondering if this would be covered under the extended warranty? Seems like it would...

Default DEF Goes Bad if Exposed to Air / Short Shelf Life Too

It should be, since air getting into that system will cause the DEF to go bad in the storage tanks and clog it up as it crystallizes...no bueno. I'd say they''d have a vested interest in replacing it, but this is Audi we're talking about. Just call the dealer and see if they are gonna give you any flak about replacing it. Bear in mind that the real sealing part is the threaded plug on the inside, not the exterior plastic 'skirt' that fits over the outside of the filling port and helps keep dirt out, etc.

By the by, just read that DEF is only good for a short period on the shelf 6months to 1yr tops, and then degrades so it is less effective, etc., even in unopened bottle. I wasn't aware of that, and so will be using my 'just-in-case' DEF backup supply at my next fill. That definitely explains why I've seen so many bottles of DEF at Walmart and other stores that are crystallizing out of the bottle...I thought it was just from leaky bottles/bad seals, but they can't all be leaking, can they? Be sure to check your Use-By-Date, if buying DEF for your garage.

I wonder if our local VW Dealer would replace this? I'll call them and find out, as the nearest Audi dealer is about 90 miles away.

Mine was cracked as well and while at the dealer for a TDI warranty issue, they did not replace it for free. Cost me about $50, which was cheaper than I saw some go for on Ebay so I just payed it.

Yeah, but that is standard Audi dealer M.O. to push you into a corner and say 'this is how it is'. It is the extremely rare occasion when they don't try to get me to sign off as being liable for warranty related parts & repair. Just saying that out of myriad warranty claim visits between our two TDIs, and at multiple dealerships, only once has a dealer service dept. not made any attempt to hang me out to dry via the assumption of financial liability sign-off form. I don't sign those at Audi, ever, because the extended warranty contract explicitly calls out that I'm not liable, and that the dealer should not be requiring me to assume liability on anything that's covered. I only sign the completed work order when picking up a car from warranty service, and their loan car sign-out when dropping off mine. I didn't even pay for the touch-up paint that I ordered from the Audi dealer parts department as they failed so badly during that particular visit, they comped me for the paint as a goodwill gesture.

I do find it comical that Audi would charge $50 for one of those silly, yet essential, plastic caps. You ought to price it from a VW dealer instead...same exact Adblue system on Touareg TDI, same filler cap, lower parts pricing. You just need to look up the parts # in advance online, so you know exactly what to ask for rather than playing the 'What's the VIN# game for them to look it up.

Our local VW Dealer ALWAYS requires a VIN Number when I ask for any parts. The told me that they will not sell me parts if they are going on an Audi because Audi complained about people doing just that. I tried to buy o-rings and gaskets for my old Q7 and it was a no-go....so I whipped out my phone and looked on ebay for a Touareg for sale and gave them that VIN...and was able to purchase the parts.
