Default ES: Make my own vacuum hose?

Hi all!
I hope you can answer a little thing for me. I hav aQ7 2007 model. And the vacuum hose that comes out of the EGR valve has broken. I live in Spain and it seems difficult to find
a replacement with the OEN number on the hose itself.
Can I just make my own? Its basically a vacuum hose right? I noticed that the one on the car is a little "stiff" silicone hose, and the ones ou buy is soft. Does this matter?
Or would I be a complete idiot to make my own, save a ton of money and time waiting for the original replacement to arrive in "2years"?
Can anybody answer this for me?

Kind regards
Nils Erik

It's just a vacuum hose, not rocket science. The OE is a molded part, which makes it look nice & tidy and helps to keep it away from rubbing/heat sources, etc. I'd try just looking up the OE part # and see if I could get any matches for that or OEM or aftermarket from online search, but barring that, it's just a vacuum hose...get a bit extra length, which gives you more flexibility in routing the non-molded hose and avoiding hard corners/constrictions, etc.

For smaller diameter ones flexible silicone vacuum hose is fine. There were some plastic thin tubing I replaced with that. For larger diameter ones (such as 1/2") you should be able to find vacuum hoses in parts store. Or try Amazon. Gates makes many sizes, if you want to replace the brittle plastic ones that are hard to find and expensive. I haven't needed to replace any but some very thin (about 2.5-3 mm??) plastic tubing.

That was what I thought also, and luckily I am not the only one that sees it that way. 😊
Yes its a small one not a big hose so that decides it I guess. 😊
Thank you very much for your answers! I will take with me your advice, both in looking for matching aftermarket (I have briefly done that without luck) and if not I will go for the closest match in size, diameter and so on with the flexible silicone hose. 😊
Thanks again and have a great day!
P. S if there are details about the flexible one I should be extra attentive about please let me know😊

With the thin plastic tubing example I mentioned earlier. In the US the 5/32" is approximately 4mm.
Amazon Amazon

If you need to connect it to an existing, old rubber hose, you may be able to cut a small segment of 3/16" brake tubing (~5mm) and use it as a coupler. There is enough flexibility in the silicone hose for a tight fit with the brake tubing.

Thanks alot! Great guide! I am thinking in my case I can just replace the whole hose from start to end. There is no fancy cupplings or anything that I can see exept from the last bend into the egr valve which seems to be covered (excuse my explanation) in a "Styrofoam" tube. Its not styrofoam but closer to that than silicone.
When the replacement hose is flexible I don't see any reason to **** around with it😊

It's just a reinforcement to help it hold up longer. If you need to make your replacement vacuum line bend similarly, then you can easily reinforce it in the same fashion, so it won't fatigue and fail prematurely..
