Second row seat vibrates and rattles. Help…going crazy
got my 2015 sport edition. Love the truck but my second row seat behind driver seat is vibrating and making noises. Found a lot of threads on it but no one every figure it out or follow up on it.
when I was testing the car I do remember selling mention noise from the back he thought it was the hitch in the spare tire area Becuase it literally sound like a banging metal noise. When I got the car first thing I did was take that hitch out and noise was still there. It turns out to be coming more in the middle area and it’s actually the seat itself. To better describe the sounds it’s almost like a bad shock banging noise everytime going over bumps. After further investigation it’s coming from the seat rails and I notice it’s the slider and rail hitting each other. When the upper part of the seat is not lock in place it’s not moving much but soon as the seat is lock in place when I hit the top of the seat I can see and feel the whole seat shake and move. So there is a lot of play between the slider (seat) to the rail (bracket mount to the truck).
it’s driving me crazy but when someone is seating in the seat is alot better almost completely gone because the weight is keeping it from rocking.
i did take the seat completely out to investigate and notice a little lip that sit on the side so I put felt tape on hoping it will help some but with the seat out of the truck it’s even harder to figure out because now the seat is not mounted down it’s hard to determine the movement.
Again found few threads describing the exact problem but notice no actually solution.
hoping someone can shine some light to this. Someone did mentions it will need a whole new seat bracket. Maybe but I can’t accept that without me knowing what is the problem and what fail to cause this issue.
thanks in advance.
So far as generic known noise & jiggles from the rear seat, if you run the seat all the way back in travel, it will hit the sides/trim pieces in car and make noise when unloaded due to contact with sides. To prevent that, just don't run the middle row seats all the way back to the travel stops.
Also, you mentioned it is much worse with seat in upright position, so I'd look to the bushing/slider first, then to the pivot/anchor mechanism to look for any other slack or broken bits.

Yes I know there has to be some bushing or something Soo it’s not metal to metal.
make sense is something with might be wore since it’s give too much play. Going try to look into some more.
My new Q7 was very creaky compared to my last one, especially over rough roads.
I applied this G052141A2 grease to all the seals around the edges of the sunroof glass and it made a huge improvement. If you have a panoramic sunroof I would definitely do this to keep the seals happy and quiet.
