A6 C6 tailgate problems
Hi all, recently purchased an a6 c6 3.0t avant with 39000 miles on the clock.
The power tailgate has some weird problems that are getting annoying:
when opening, most of the time the boot does not fully open, sometimes opens about half way, sometimes none at all, very occasionally all the way.
The button used to close the boot often does not work, occasionally if the boot is up and I press the button it'll try to open it even more which is quite scary.
The 3rd brake light also had a fault a couple of weeks ago and wouldn't turn on, however that went away after a day and hasn't returned since.
Any ideas on how oo diagnose and fix the tailgate? Thanks in advance for your help!

When my tailgate was not opening all the way on the first activation on my ;06 A6 Avant, I solved the problem by replacing the pneumatic struts. Without knowing the year of your Avant and if you don't know if these have ever been changed, you might just this fix. I also have had a couple of sporadic rear brake light warnings, but I haven't done anything about it until is fails completely.

Had the same issue with my tailgate not going all way up - although mine was a retrofit!
The struts for the electric tailgate are specific to cars that have electric tailgate - I read somewhere (!) that these are475mm stroke and 600Nm units - Mine struggled with this type.....
Changed mine to 4F9827552B which have a 490 mm stroke and 650Nm and it works a lot better......The switch in the trunk lid is a very simple switch.....I would change it out - or if you are feeling brave take it apart and clean it!
If you have VCDS you can check if the switch is working
