Default Audi A6 timing issue

I just got done doing a complete timing job about four weeks ago on my A6 with a 3.2. All was well for the past four weeks, put about 500 miles on it on a couple short trips. Went to start the car this morning and it sounds like the passenger side cam tensioner lost pressure. I'm getting a bad tick sound from the area of the cover. Just started today on startup and I did check oil level.

All tensioner and guides are new and both upper chains new.
I pulled codes and have a P0341 and P0366, cam pos. sensors codes.

I'm looking for a place to start on trying to figure this issue out.

Ideally post the full vag content of the two codes.

Could try swapping locations of two cam position sensors.

Sometimes the cam adjusters get gummed up and need a cleaning. Ross tech says this note about P0366:

Special Notes

  • When found in the 3.2 FSI
    • Please see TPI 2012630 for information about Camshaft Adjusters binding.
      • If the camshaft adjuster is suspected you may be able to swap the left and right side components to see if the fault code moves (providing the parts are compatible).

Would the cam adjuster malfunctioning cause the cam chain tensioner to lose pressure or the tensioner lose pressure cause the codes?

Perhaps I misunderstood… when you say cover do you mean valve cover or rear metal upper timing cover? Things that can cause low oil pressure in an upper tensioner is a failed tensioner, debris in the tensioner oil galley or engine wide low oil pressure from debris in the oil pan pickup screen.

Can you post the two full vag codes data?

What happens if you take revs up to 2.5K - 3K and raise the oil pressure?

Yes, assuming you did install genuine or good quality OEM tensioners. I would check the cam solenoids first. Watch this:

Depending exactly where it is coming from and how bad the oil leak is, it is possible the leak is reducing oil pressure just enough to cause the tensioner symptom.

The timing cover leak that is going on in the other thread, looks like it's coming from the bottom of the lower timing cover. I can spray it off and watch it seep through on the bottom.

I tried to get the data today but the car isn't starting anymore. So now I'm not able to get a data stream anymore.

Default Re-doing the timing on the A6

Aright everybody, I could use a bit of input. So when I bought the A6 3.2, it had a timing issue. I found the passenger side tensioner piston collapsed. I decided to take the engine out and do a complete timing job on it. After putting everything back together and put in about 500 miles on the car, I first started seeing an oil leak that looks like it comes from the bottom of the lower timing cover. A couple weeks of that oil leak and now I started getting a rattling noise coming from the passenger side upper timing cover. Took the timing upper timing cover off and found a similar problem the tensioner piston does not extend anymore. I can push the arm of the tensioner in and out against the chain but the Piston itself does not extend.
So it looks like I'm going to be dropping the motor again figuring out the oil leak and replacing that upper passenger side tensioner.
My question is what would cause that tensioner to go bad that fast?
What should I be looking for as I go back through this process? The tensioner brand is INA from FCP EURO PARTS, is that where I messed up?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ive had two tensions fail on me as well, both INA brands. Mine still makes a small clack sound for about 1/2 second when I start it up, only sometimes though.

Both times the passenger side tensioner I could press it in with my hand. Drivers side was stiff. Weird.

Ive just given up replacing the tension for a third time and just live with it.
