Default Ambient lighting blinking when doors open after replacing with led strips.

Hi, I have an issue and now I’m desperate. We changed the ambient lighting with led strips and now when the doors are open the led strips turn off and start to blink. When you close the door the led strips start to work again. We removed the original 3v resistor so I have no idea why it does that. Please help.

The lighting on these cars is not like the old days as it is highly controlled and computer managed. The issue you’re running into likely has to do with you changing the designed and expected electrical current design and load of the circuit. Maybe try putting it back to stock and see what happens?

I already figured out what the issue is. When i blast the ambient light to the max in mmi it does the same thing when you open the doors. Then i tried to turn it completely off. Lights were off and when you open the doors the control unit blast the ambient light to the max. So i assume there is too much power and i need put resistor on the led. But the issue is I dont know much About resistors and have to figure out what kind of resistor i need to buy for it. I dont want to go back to Stock ambient. It’s too weak and I could barely notice even on full brightness.

Something else is wrong to cause this symptom. Audi does not manufacture cars with barely noticeable computer controlled ambient lighting.

It has control unit in every door. And tested on another C6 with Stock ambient light that when you open the door it lights up to max. And the only logical thing for me is that it’s giving it too much power because it’s working all right until you set it to max.

Not to criticize but assumptions of this nature can be dangerous. You’re asking for someone to tell you the value of an aftermarket resistor to add to your lighting system to fix your modifications which is likely not going to yield satisfactory results. If you strongly believe a resistor will solve your problem and your comfortable with entering uncharted territory with a risk of damaging vehicle electrical systems then suggest try adding a high current potentiometer and measure the rotated pot position value that you find makes the lights work. With the value discovered then you a can purchase and install a fixed value resistor.

Stock ambient light use simple resistor. I think it will be safe. I’m not an idiot of course I’m going to do a research and make sure it’s going to be safe for the electric in the car. And to be honest I’m trying to learn something and I know there is a risk of breaking something, that’s why I’m doing it on C6, because it is an older car and you can find spare parts, units etc. for a few €.

Again my apologies if you interpreted decades of electrical engineering experience advice as being overly critical as I intend no offence.

Proceed with caution and at your own risk 👍
