Default UK: Car is in safe mode

Hi there.
I will try to explain this as simple as I can .
I Had problem with locking module (under steering wheel) .
My car been towed away few days later home .
So I did some soldering on the module 3x switches and 1 relay.
That didn't help.
So I bought a set from nother A6 C6 with similar codes ( key, ignition module and locking module)
I've changed all that and hooray car unlocked the steering wheel , turn the key and car started and stopped. Now its got SAFE saying at the cluster.

Any ideas? Can I do something without programming or keys needs to be programmed to imboliser? Or locking module itself?

That's how it looks now.

This is the set I bought.

The module that locks the steering wheel is part of the immobilizer system, and needs to be coded to the FOB and the car for it to work. It is not a plug 'n play system. Most likely, you will need to have you A6 toed to a dealer to make it work.

My immediate reaction is by replacing keys, steering and locking module even if they have an internally matched set of immobilizer codes you have not got a matched set in the car. You are missing the speedometer, MMI and ECU -engine computer. I would stop where you are and speak with Tom at Speedometer Solutions about your next steps.

Speedometer Solutions has a website.

02095 - Ross-Tech Wiki.

You might also contact your dealer and see if they will do a reset for you. The dealer in my area will not.

I'm from UK not US. . I will have a look. Thanks .

Some key lockers told me that.
( you need a locksmith to program the key to the car/sync the steering module up with ECU) is that can be true?

I can't be certain this is relevant but several months ago there was a post, I believe it had to do with the J518 module, where the poster had successfully transplanted an 8-pin DIP from his original module which had stopped working, to a replacement module and this fixed the whole component protection problem. Apparently the coding for the protection lives on that IC and if you or someone you know has the ability, it is not that difficult to transplant. Since I read that post I have suspected that all modules within the component protection chain, contain one of those ICs. They may be module specific but either way allows for a relatively simple way around the problem.

That's interesting. I will try to Google it.
As for now I'm searching for people who can remove component protection and make it work . I was thinking that I don't need to code keys. As if it's would be key problem , it wouldn't start at all. Would be the same thing like with old key. Just blank dashboard. But this is just a thought 💭. Thanks for reply

With some timely information from SMac770, I tried it and it does work 👍

Note transplanting the 8 pin eeprom does not work on much newer modules as Audi eventually moved CP content into onboard flash of large processing chips which are 80 to 160 pin QFP’s making for a more challenging transplant.

This procedure is not for everyone. If you know someone who does board level surface mount repairs then it is easily done with the right tools and experience.
